Eric is a talented keyboardist, composer, producer
and DJ.
From 1987 Eric played in, and wrote for bands such as Kevin van Staden's
"Communique", relatively successful in South Africa during the early
90's and "Mean Mr Mustard". It was during this time that the large
record companies started noticing Eric's talent and by 1996 Eric was
signed to BMG Records Africa recording various covers as well as
original material.
Eric was involved in co-producing tracks for artists like Patricia
Lewis, TK-ZEE, Helene Henn, Sugardrive and the Bellissima remix. The
remixes he did for the Bellissima Single went on to sell Gold. He was
involved in co-producing various singles with DJ Spiro as Heatseeker,
and has produced tracks with DJs' Paul Almeida, Dimitri, Nelson, Darren
Africa, Anton Olwage, Lea and Scotty, which was featured on albums that
was released locally and some in the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Asia and
Thailand.
He has also co-produced with 5FM's Derek Richardson, Ian F, Sasha
Martinengo and Mark Gillman.
In one week Eric had 3 TOP 40 songs on the 5 FM charts with tracks at
number 2 "Xplicit - Heatseeker" (Number 1 on South Africa's National
Dance Chart and stayed there for 4 weeks). Also Mauritz Lotz at number
17 and "Swimming with Dolphins" at number 5. On the 24th of December
1999 he managed to have "Xplicit" played by Judge Jules on BBC 1. "Xplicit"
is also released in Belgium on Club System 16, Serious Beats 33 and on
Clockwork (12").
Heatseeker also received the award "Best SA Dance Track 2000" for "Xplicit"
by Beat Nation. "Serious Beats 2", a Various International Dance
compilation features 3 of his tracks, mixed by himself with DJ Spiro and
has gone gold.
He has had 22 originals licensed and remixed for release in the UK and
Benelux. "Beyond the Wheel" has been signed by ZTT, a major UK label
with artists like Frankie Goes 2 Hollywood. He co-produced "IF I" with
Belgium DJ Philip and is also doing remixes for various labels in the
UK, working with the likes of Richard Coal, George Miller (The Chemist)
and Lee Witherspoon (The Science of Rhythm).
'Eric M Reflections' is his full length studio album released Oct 2002
and features an unreleased version of 'xplicit' as well as 'I'll wait
for you', both featured on 5fm. It's a reflection of his work done in
the UK and Europe over the past three years, and features remixes done
by artists from Holland, Belgium and the UK.
In total he has released 237 tracks on 70 compilations, 16 singles, 16
12" vinyls and 3 albums worldwide. "Sunset Cabriolet" has just been
licensed to Ministry of Sound 's local Chill Sessions Album, and
Amabala's 'Breathe Sunshine'. It's currently play-listed on German radio
stations.
Eric is also an accomplished DJ and has played in clubs such as "Globe",
"Flyhouse", "Alcazar", "DNA", "Funkytown", "Madisons", "Millennium",
"Evolution", "Nightshift" and "Morgan's", all clubs in Gauteng. He has
also played in "Pure", "The Gallery", "96 degrees", "Dockside",
"Insomnia" , "Purgatory", "The Fez" and "Getafix" Capetown, "Havanah"
Bloemfontein,"The Matrix" Witbank and Nelspruit, "Levels" and "Ledgers"
Richardsbay,"Vibe on 222" Durban, "Bourbon Street" Secunda, "The Cave"
and "Dirty Vegas" Plettenbergbaai, "Redemption" Port Elizabeth,
"Numbers" East London and "Decadance" Vereeniging.
Internationally he played Belgium at "Illusion's La Noche", "Shaft" and
2 years in a row at "Lazurra" with DJ's like Pulsedriver, Jurgen, DAF,
Philip, Wout and Jan. In March 2001 he was one of the first djs to ever
play at a major event in Karachi Pakistan. March 2002 saw him at the
Rand Easter Show doing a live show with 20 dancers, 8 percussionists and
4 fire eaters all choreographed to his music. He lives in Cape Town at
the moment and is busy producing with DJ's and artists, working on a
second album and tracks for international release. |
