The Skatalites Formed in the early 60’s. They not only invented the
music we call ska, but without them Jamaican music may have never
escalated to the level that it has come.
Without the Skatalites there would be no reggae section in the record
store. Without the Skatalites the world may have never heard of a man
named Bob Marley. The Skatalites were the house band for Studio One in
the sixties (the greatest legacy in the history of Jamaican music...one
of the greatest in the history of modern music). Without them, modern
music as we know it would be completely different.
In 1965 they played their last show until reforming for a reunion show
at the Reggae Sunsplash festival in 1983. They began to record again and
played their first US Show at the Vilage Gate in 1990.
Between 1995 and 1998 the core of the group emigrated to the US and
continued to record and tour with two recordings earning Grammy
nominations.
The Skatalites began their first World Tour in 2002 and haven’t stopped
working since. |
